Dissertation: Exploring the Perceptions of Climate Change and Pesticide Use Among Farmers in a Rural Agricultural Community in Sri Lanka

Conducted by GRACT scholar Sithumini Agampodi as part of her Master's by Research (MScR) in Agriculture and Food Security at the University of Edinburgh, the study examines farmers' perceptions of climate change and pesticide use in Ginnoruwa, a rural agricultural community in System C of the Sri Lanka Mahaweli Development Project following the construction of the Moragahakanda Reservoir. Using qualitative research methods, the study explores how environmental change, irrigation development, and institutional influences shape farmers' pesticide use decisions. It finds that these decisions are influenced not only by technical considerations but also by farmers' lived experiences, social identities, and interactions with multiple sources of knowledge and authority. The research provides valuable insights for developing more context-sensitive approaches to climate adaptation, sustainable agriculture, and pesticide governance in Sri Lanka
