Acute Response to emergency Mental Health and Substance use (ARMHS) Research Network

The Acute Response to emergency Mental Health and Substance use (ARMHS) Research Network was set up in 2025 and is a jointly chaired network across University of Edinburgh, NHS Lothian and Glasgow Caledonian University. The aims of this interdisciplinary network are to: 

  1. share knowledge and research,
  2. create a common voice to advocate for emergency responses as a priority area for research and public health policy,
  3. create multidisciplinary collaborations for grant applications, and
  4. produce academic outputs. 

Team members

Lisa is a postdoc at University of Edinburgh. She's a public health researcher with an interest in substance use and mental health. 


Gearóid Brennan is a Liason Psychiatry Nurse at Royal Infirmary Edinburgh. 


Elizabeth is professor of substance use research. She has a background as a mental health nurse and has an interest in promotion of physical and mental health.


Odett is a registered counsellor in Edinburgh and Research Coordinator at University of Edinburgh. She has an interest in mental health support integration.
