Research Capacity

Training aimed at increasing research capacity through scholarships, mentoring, and models for clinical trial development.

The emergency management of poisoned patients is a long-neglected subject, exacerbated by the large number of poisons and toxins present in the environment. Despite the many patients presenting to hospital for emergency care, clinical trials are few and research has usually not addressed the problems LMIC face.

There is a need to increase research capacity in clinical toxicology, to provide better information to national healthcare systems on treatment, diagnosis and prevention of acute poisoning.

What are we doing?

Research Training Days

We will provide an integrated set of research training days at major annual congresses of the Middle East and North Africa Clinical Toxicology Association (MENATOX) and the Asia Pacific Association of Medical Toxicologist (APAMT).

These sessions will also provide an opportunity for attendees to expand their network, and develop collaborations.

We will provide some support, through scholarships, to enable attendees from under- represented groups and LMIC to attend the sessions.

Global Research Academy for Clinical Toxicology (GRACT)

An academic training programme to develop and train the clinical toxicology researchers of the future.

The academy is a virtual centre for research. Early career researchers looking to advance their expertise are encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will be matched up with mentors from institutions collaborating in this project and others from around the world.

Our vision is to improve clinical care of patients with acute poisoning in low and middle-income countries (LMIC) by expanding LMIC research capacity and creating a global focus for clinical toxicology research. The academy offers flexibility, advice and mentorship irrespective of discipline or background.

Aim and Objectives

The academy is a virtual centre for research. Early career researchers looking to advance their expertise are encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will be matched up with mentors from institutions collaborating in this project and others from around the world.

Application Process

Application for entry into this virtual academy will is open to all early career researchers with a passion for research into clinical toxicology regardless of their research background.
