We work to stop deaths from acute poisoning in countries where resources are limited. Our project is supported by the NIHR RIGHT4, which helps us do important health research. Improve Care: We want to make care better for people with poisoning in these countries.Research: We find out how to diagnose and treat poisoning better.Train: We help countries build their ability to research and handle poisonings.Support: We help set up Poison Information Centres to give advice on poisonings.Our WorkMethanol Poisoning: We're finding new ways to quickly diagnose methanol poisoning.Pesticide Poisoning: We're looking into how to treat pesticide poisoning before getting to a hospital and how people get poisoned at work.Guidelines: We're working to make global guidelines for handling pesticide poisoning.Research Skills: We're teaching researchers in these countries about toxicology and public health.Poison Centres: We're helping countries start and improve Poison Information Centres.The Difference We MakeDirect Help: Our research is already helping in countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and India.Regional Support: We're setting up a Poison Information Centre in Southern Africa to help countries there like Malawi and Zimbabwe.Global Benefits: Our guidelines and training will help many countries deal with poisonings better. ProjectUpdateGlobal Research Academy for Clinical Toxicology (GRACT) ScholarshipsSince June 2023 when GRACT was established, we have now 15 promising scholars from Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, South Africa, Malawi, and Nigeria.This support covered their graduate studies in the UK, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Nigeria including. 10 of these scholarships were granted to female researchers.Postgraduate Diplomas in Medical ToxicologyFrom January 2024, four exceptional scholars, 1 from Sudan and 3 female scholars from Zambia and Malawi started their journey in Medical Toxicology at Stellenbosch University, South Africa, aiming to drive toxicology research in their communities. New scholarship are in the process to be awarded to successful applicants for January 2025 cohort.APAMT Research Training Day 2024Our training day in November 2024 in Penang Malaysia, was a huge success. We brought together scholars from around the world, including Argentina, Philippines, Nepal, Kenya, Vietnam, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, South Africa, India, and Bangladesh. They received scholarships to attend this training, gaining valuable skills and knowledge in toxicology.
