Information on medicine and drug discovery at the Centre for Cardiovascular Science Skills & Expertise The Drug Discovery Core is focused on developing new medicines and has a proven track record in successfully translating University research into potential therapies. Our team has unique expertise in the University context encompassing a host of drug discovery skills including: Target validation Protein Expression and Cell-Based Techniques Assay Development and Target-Based Screening Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) Project Management The team is co-located with the Edinburgh Mass Spectrometry Facility and is part of the Edinburgh Drug Discovery partnership, which provides drug discovery expertise spanning phenotypic profiling, medicinal chemistry and clinical development. Track Record We work closely with academic and clinical colleagues within the University and in partnership with industry, including GlaxoSmithKline and Sanofi/Genzyme, to discover new medicines. Although located within Cardiovascular Science our research projects span a range of diseases and conditions including: Metabolic syndrome Alzheimer’s disease Multiple organ failure Fibrotic liver disease Multiple sclerosis Striking success stories have arisen from our research.
