Refuge Areas

Information on refuge areas.

A Temporary Waiting Space (also referred to as a refuge space) is an area that accommodates a person who is unable to independently negotiate stairs in the event of an evacuation. If you are dependent upon assistance to exit the building in an emergency (temporary or permanent basis), then you will require a PEEP in place.

Where persons are located within a Temporary Waiting Space, it may not be necessary to immediately evacuate. Please use the intercom provided (this is only active during a fire alarm) to get in touch with the Fire Co-Ordinator at reception who can give you details about the most appropriate action to take.
