The Edinburgh Pregnancy Research Team led by Professor Rebecca Reynolds (Centre for Cardiovascular Science) and Dr Sarah Stock (The Usher Institute) has contributed to the launch of the infographic on use of antenatal corticosteroids before planned caesarean birth at term. The Consortium for the Study of Pregnancy Treatments (Co-OPT) is a collaboration led by Dr Sarah Stock which aims to address knowledge gaps about the safety, optimum dosage and long-term effects of medications in pregnancy, and the initial focus of Co-OPT is Antenatal Corticosteroids. The Co-OPT Parental Advisory Board (PAB) has launched a patient infographic on the use of Antenatal corticosteroids, at term (37 weeks of pregnancy onwards), before planned Caesarean birth. The infographic is supported by the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (RCOG), and accompanies the RCOG Green-top Guideline “Antenatal corticosteroids to reduce neonatal morbidity and mortality”. The Co-OPT PAB is an international group of parents, representing the interests of preterm and newborn babies. The project has been led by Clinical Research Fellow Dr Emily Frier, and the graphic designer is Tom Harris. The infographic is designed to be used by patients and healthcare professionals, to support shared-decision making surrounding the use of steroids before Caesarean birth.
