Cleaning Rota As a user of TC facilities in the CVS, you are expected to take part in the weekly cleaning rota for your room. Cleaning rota tasks: Cleaning all hoods Cleaning surfaces and trunking in TC lab and prep room Checking water levels in incubators Cleaning water baths when required Making up Virkon and 70% ethanol Restocking the labs General tidying of area All rooms have local manager who will organise this, if you have any issues please contact them in the first instance. All items will be stored in specific boxes in a cold room and anything left after two weeks will disposed of - Clean lab coats. All lab coats will be removed from either the Centre or West TC suites on a weekly rotation. Anything left in pockets will be put into the lab coat bags. New lab coats and unused lab coat bags will be placed into a plastic box in the prep room. Contamination Please see the Gibco Introduction to Cell Culture webpages for detailed information on the causes of contamination. Incubator Cleaning All Incubators should be deep cleaned at least twice a year. You as the users should do one when returning from the Christmas shut down before turning the incubators back on. Detailed instructions are available depending on what type of incubator - Heracell - Panasonic - Sanyo Lab Support will do the other deep clean with one per week on a rota. A schedule will be created and advance notice will given. Please contact CVS Lab Management if you do not want your incubator cleaned by lab support or have a specific date to avoid cleaning on. Storage of Cells in Liquid Nitrogen There is a liquid nitrogen store in the basement of the QMRI, CVS has an allocated tank with numbered racks inside. Only once you have completed both parts of the liquid nitrogen training will you be given access. Please contact Catherine.Duff@ed.ac.uk if you require space in the tank. It is up to users and their groups to maintain records of what is in their assigned spaces. If you use a space that is not assigned to yourself, your samples may be discarded.
