CVS Seminar Series Survey Outcome 2022

The Seminar and Symposium Committee ran a short, anonymised survey this summer.

We asked

The Seminar and Symposium Committee ran a short, anonymised survey this summer. The Audit aimed to consult the views of our Center members on the CVS Seminar series delivering in hybrid mode (meaning online and F2F). We intent for CVS seminars to continue to run as hybrid with an in-person chairing from two committee members and an in-person speaker.

You said in a Survey

There was a broad representation from all within the CVS, with approximately 44% overall CVS academic/research staff. Majority supported the CVS Seminars to continue as hybrid. With an option to record the live seminars and questions, you asked for links to specific recordings to be distributed at the end of the session. The proposal to “Meet the Editor” has been welcomed greatly, and you also asked for more talks with Industrial engagements. The seminar venue and timings will remain the same.

A total of 67 responses were received. Of these, 90% were from postdocs/PhDs and PIs and 10% were from representatives of technology, managers, or others.

We will do

Going forward we would like to:

  • Invite speakers with industrial engagements who can talk on technology transfer
  • Host speakers who can talk of their basic & big data science
  • Provide blog style summary in CVS newsletter – examples of positive outcomes from “Meet the Speaker” and what it led to
  • Host Editors in “Meet the Editor” session – once per semester
  • Send out link to specific seminar recording after the seminar
  • Maintain the current balance of speakers from each CVS theme and quality of science
  • Have Thursday coffee mornings ahead of in-person attendance of Seminars.

Alongside above outcomes and intention for the CVS Committee, we ask for your participation to attend seminars in-person, as well as to suggest names and approach speakers, Editors, and/or industrial partners that you can then host in-person at the CVS.

Suggestions are invited from all for the 2022/23 CVS Seminar speakers.

With my kind wishes,
