Info on GM RAs You must have a GM risk assessment in place before you bring GM animals, viruses, bacteria or cells into the building and start working with them. As a Centre we have two general RAs for working with genetically modified micro-organisms (GMMOs) these are for Propagating Class 1 bacterial strains (CVS.031.Gen). Harvesting cells from non-harmful GM mice (CVS.102.CVS). YOU MUST ENSURE THAT YOUR BACTERIAL STRAINS AND MICE ARE COVERED BY THESE GMMOs BEFORE YOU START WORKING WITH THEM. If the above GMO RA forms do not cover your work, you will be required to complete a GM RA and wait for approval before proceeding with your work. There are three forms for the different GMOs you might be working with. Form 1 - Genetically modified micro-organisms: including bacteria and cells Form 2 - Genetically modified viruses and viral vectors Form 3 - Genetically modified animals For advice please get in touch with Catherine.Duff@ed.ac.uk This article was published on 2024-03-19
