Information about how to obtain your access card There are certain courses and documentation which are required to work in the CVS. These pages have been generated to help you work your way through the process. If you have any questions do not hesitate to get in touch with CVS.lab.access@ed.ac.uk Step 1: Complete Health and Safety Document and Training - Read Project Safe System of Work or Visitor Risk Assessment Your PI or group leader will provide you with a Project Safe System of Work (PSSW) or a Visitor Risk Assessment (VRA). This will provide you with A brief description of the project, The types of samples to be handled (the relevant BA and GMO RAs) The techniques to be used to analyse them (the procedural RAs) The equipment required and any specific inductions (the equipment RAs) A list of the H&S Training courses to be completed Information on further training as required e.g. TC, Radiation or Animal Work - Complete required mandatory and any specific training for your project and record on your training record Details of mandatory training are on the webpage called training below. NOTE: you are expected to complete Lindsay Murray's Edinburgh BioQuarter courses, however we realise that these can run at random times. Therefore if there are no upcoming dates when you first arrive, please complete the rest of the mandatory training and documentation and send in so you can have your face to face lab induction as soon as possible. And please keep an eye out for the next available dates and book onto those. To record that you have completed the mandatory (and any specific training required) for your project, you will be asked to start a personal CVS training record on which to log the details. - Complete personal RA signature form To record that you have read and understood the RAs listed in the relevant PSSW or VRA, we have an electronic method of signing risk assessments. You should add the reference number and title of each RA into the RA signatory form and sign it. Then ask your PI to countersign. - Complete a personal Lone and Out of Hours Risk Assessment You can be lone working even during normal working hours, it is important that you know what you can and can’t do at these times. The training with Lindsay is completed in conjunction with this LOOH document. It also refers to any personal circumstances you might have which could impact on this work. Once completed, you will be send the QMRI Access Card Application form. Please complete section 1 and return to Catherine.Duff@ed.ac.uk Step 4: Organise access to CVS Core PPMS booking system Once you have applied for your card, please apply for access to the CVS Core PPMS booking system by following the instructions below. If any issues, please contact CVS.Lab.Management@ed.ac.uk Go to PPMS Select CVS CORE EQUIPMENT from the list - THIS STEP IS REALLY IMPORTANT, SELECT ANY OTHER FACILITY AND CVS CANNOT ACTIVATE YOUR ACCOUNT Go to Account Creation Request Complete and submit form Once your account has been activated, you will be able to log onto CVS Core PPMS using your UoE credentials and book core CVS equipment Training Details on the basic mandatory H&S training for new starts and visitors This article was published on 2024-03-19
